India is the land of vegetarian food and curries! 80% of the people here in India are Hindu and the cow is sacred, so few people eat red meat. Instead there are lots of vegetables and tofu with curry sauces. A few nights ago we went to a restaurant in UB City (the downtown hip part of Bangalore) and ate at a chain restaurant called Rajdhani. This restaurant serves traditional Indian food. I've included some pictures of the bus boy coming around to let us wash our finger tips before and after we ate and my plate of food. Also Indians have fresh juices every morning for breakfast (at least at our hotels they do). I've tried cucumber juice, pineapple juice, mango juice, and lime juice. Each juice tastes like you bit right into the fruit! Our cohort is staying at the Lemontree Premier Hotel while in Bangalore; we are very fortunate because it’s a beautiful hotel. I attached a picture of my room below. Toilets (both western and Turkish) have water available instead of toilet paper. So when you go to the bathroom, you either use the water hose to clean your body or there is a bucket of water that you scoop up water with your hands and clean yourself. I brought a roll of toilet paper from home and stick a little bit in my purse each day while we're out and about! Even though we are staying at a nice hotel, the tap water in India is not sanitary. This means that we all, including the Indian people, drink bottled water. I have gotten used to using bottled water when brushing my teeth! It's hard sometimes to remember, though! |

All that is food for one person? I thought it must be for the whole table.

It was all for me! All 14 of us had a plate like this in front of us!

I would be so fat if I lived there. And then there is all of the ghee (clarified butter). :) The bottled water thing is pretty horrifying when you think about it.. ALL of the people using plastic bottles... The toilet thing; Very interesting, the option of watering your butt and whatnot.

The bottled water thing is scary for both the environment and the people. I hope the Indian government can start cleaning the water so it won't get people sick.
