Day 9 – June 24
5:26am
I did not have the best night. I constantly woke up. I had to pee really badly. I woke up three times. I had to take my pill last night so I had to drink a lot of water to wash it down. This morning is not looking so good. It is constantly raining. How will we work? I just hope it stops soon. I’ll tell you about it later.

This morning for breakfast we had an omelet and beans and rice. It was delicious. It was still raining when we had to walk to the work site and we were the first ones there, even though we were late. We were supposed to be there at 6:50am but we got there at 6:58am. When most people arrived we went to work and that’s when the rain stopped. It was pretty spectacular. It was hard work today I’m tired of course, but we only have one day left. That’s sad. Regardless of the aches and pains I’m feeling, I don’t want to stop helping them build. Today for lunch we ate beans, rice and tortilla chips. I didn’t feel good after I ate it. I’m probably getting tired of it. Actually I know I am. I didn’t eat the M&M they gave us, again, today. I’ll save it for later. Today at chat circle Dantay and Rashaad led it. It was about education it made me realize that people in the U.S don’t value education like the people in the village do. We take it for advantage. We have the opportunity to be anything we want because we learn about a lot of options. But in this community they only see two options. All the kids want to be is a teacher or a cook. It’s sad to me because sometimes U.S students don’t know how blessed they are to have school with a great education system, with great teachers.
After lunch we did our cultural activity. We learned about coffee. We went to my house because our papa also grows coffee plants. I want my family to practice buying products that practice fair trade even though it may cost more. I say this because for 80 pounds of coffee he only gets 10$. That’s disappointing. He does a lot of work and gets a small portion. Hopefully I can convince my mom (family) and others. Now I’m just sitting here writing because we’ve done everything for the afternoon including pumping water, so Amy sent everyone home. But since it was my house I stayed. But at 4:50pm I’m going to get my other roommate because I want her to have company. Katya is a great roommate and friend. She actually knows a girl from my school in my class, Bridget. Speaking of school, I miss my cutie Julia. She is one of my bests and closest friend. I can’t wait to go shopping with her. She is so awesome and exactly like me. That’s why she is my friend of course. Well I have to go soon to get Katya from the work site. I’ll write tonight.

7:40pm
Ileana just fixed my book. She is the most wonderful person in the world. We had a wonderful dinner. We ate Albondigas. It had chicken, bread and a type of noodle. It was pretty good. Then they gave us sweet bread. I loved it so much; it was so good. Good night.
