Day 2 – July 17
9:09 am
The night was great. I slept like a baby although I did wake up around 6-ish. I just love it. I took a cold shower; of course I enjoyed myself, I love cold. The food was delicious at the hotel. We ate pineapple, muffin and a watermelon. I want to stay longer than 2 weeks. I love it here.

We had an adventurous time in this town (Matagalpha). After breakfast we went to make some art. There was a man that helped us; he was the owner of the place. When he explained to us, it sounded like an after school program. It was a place children went to the needed some where to be. Their art was amazing. There was also dancing and puppets the kids did.
After that we went to a museum of the revolution. It was interesting to see different aspects that are similar to the US. In this case, the saying they used (the ones that over threw the government) was “Partite libre o morir” which means “free homeland or die.” That is similar to Patrick Henry’s saying “give me liberty or give me death.” Learning about a different culture struggle is very interesting to me. Next, we changed our money to buy our boots. They were 179 córdobas. It sounds like a lot but it is about a little over seven dollars. I wear a 39 out here! (Only a size eight) We walked back to the hotel but stopped for some ice cream. Two little kids were grabbing and begging for some. No parents around and on the streets. It was sad and made me appreciate the things you are blessed to have. The little girl hugged and begged for ice cream and money. Little did I know she tried to pick pocket me. I guess you have to do some things in order to survive.

We just ate dinner. It was good, better than yesterday. There was beef, a salad, rice, and fried banana. That was the hardest to eat but other than that everything was delicious. After dinner we played mafia and I was one of the mafias. I played a great game, very sneaky. I had my poker face on, and I stayed until the end. We go to the village tomorrow. My roommates are Katya and Latoya. I’m so excited to go. I feel prepared and ready to work. We only work for six days because we will be there on a Sunday. That is unfortunate but I still want to put my heart into those six days. I can’t wait.

P.S…. A girl got stuck in the bathroom.
