Day 7, June 22
3:48pm
Today is Sunday that means we didn’t work today. We have three more work days, and we leave Thursday morning. Time is flying by too fast. Some may not think so, but I do. This morning we washed our clothes and it was fun. I experienced what they do all their life. They wash on a huge rock and hang their clothes on trees. It was pretty interesting. However we were late to the work site. We had to meet there at 9:00 am. It was okay though they weren’t mad. I’m glad we washed then because it’s raining a lot right now. We also ate a great breakfast. Mama really did a great job. We ate beans, rice, tortilla and eggs; it was amazing. When we arrived at the work site, the others were all sitting in a circle. We read our letters that we wrote from pre-trek one. It just reminded me why I am here: to experience a one in a lifetime opportunity. There isn’t one reason to complain about food, bugs, latrines, showers or hills, because at the end of the day I get to go home. This is not how I live; but they do, and all I have to do is be grateful and thank God for everything I have. It also said in the letter where I wanted this to take me. I want to open a homeless shelter one day and/or travel the world and help those in need. This is only the first step to an amazing journey.
After the circle, since it was Sunday and their day off, we played baseball. Baseball is Nicaragua’s national sport. We had to climb a hill, as tall as Mt. Everest, and go down another part of the hill just to get to the baseball field. I played right field and I batted. I cannot bat to save my life. Maybe with practice, but that would never happen. I’ll just stick to track. I did get a small hit. They hit the ball in my direction but it was far from where I stood. I had to run up a hill just to get the ball.

After baseball we had lunch. We ate beans, rice, tortilla and fries! It was tasty, well the fries, the beans and rice wasn’t as good as how mama makes it of course. Next we had to pick up garbage because some people, from our group, left some behind. So Cy made us pick eight pieces of trash up. I didn’t mind, others did though.
